Saturday 11/8/14

No one ever told us that it would be music to our ears hearing Ava cry for the first time!!

She is going on 24 hours without being on the ventilator and is doing very good!  They still have her on a CPAP machine (essentially the same machine that people who suffer from sleep apnea use at night). This machine is in fact a ventilator but it runs a different program that allows continuous airflow through the nose cannula. But even with this device in place it is not supplying her with full breaths as the previous vent was.

They were able to weigh her for the first time this morning without the interference of the vent - which the nurses say is hard to get a good weight reading when she is on the vent because it can pull down and add additional weight.

So the baby that we thought weighed 8lbs 10oz is actually closer to 8lbs 4oz. Some of this loss is attributed to her being on the sedation meds as well.

So in her free time Ava likes to work out,
(Liezel made her some dumbbells)

take longing gazes at the jumping lines of the vent,

and poop and pee all over mommy!!!  Believe me you do not want to see pictures!!

It is amazing being able to hear here cry, watch her try to talk, and watch her eyes  lock on yours and just wonder what in the world is going on...

Just beleive us girl -- we will give you the full run down someday!!

We cannot continue to say this enough-peoples generosity overwhelms this experience.

We are greatly apprecitive of all the love and supprt everyone has given us and our family.  From helping to rake leaves, to bringing us dinner, or watching the boys for the night we are truly blessed to have such wonderful family and friends to help is through this little bump in the road.

Xoxo
